Gouache and tempera are, in my opinion, the most difficult materials to master and which demand the most skill in working with them. I fought with tempera throughout mu six years at university.
Gouache was a commonplace decorative paint during the socialism period, which in fact possesses incredible picturesque qualities.
I've become accustomed to and at one with these materials and I actually feel more at ease with them than with canvas and oil.
